Yes. Anyone can get health insurance now - your type of occupation does not have an impact on the health insurance you can get. Under the affordable care act, an insurer can no longer deny you for coverage due to a pre-existing condition or other health-related issue.

What's important to remember is that not every plan is available in every area. Where you are, your age, and any usage of tobacco affect which plans will be available to you and what your premium rates would be for the plan you select.

You may also want to see if you can qualify for a subsidy through a plan on the health insurance exchanges to lower your monthly premium payment.

I hope the information is helpful - please feel free to contact me with any other questions. Thanks very much.

Substitute teachers can purchase health insurance. However, depending on when you apply for coverage, some plans may not be available. For example, if you apply for coverage during Open Enrollment, many different options are offered with subsidy eligibility.

Your employer may also have options to consider.

If you do not qualify for an SEP (Special Enrollment Period), less plans will be available outside of Open Enrollment.
