What kind of health insurance you can get your newborn will depend upon your circumstances but your ability to qualify for and to be offered coverage are guaranteed by law now. If you or your spouse are employed and have health insurance through your employer then you may want to add the child as a dependent on your group coverage. Your child can also qualify for an individual health insurance policy that is guaranteed to be issued and that cannot have any pre-existing conditions limits or exclusions. And, depending upon your income level, your newborn may qualify for health coverage under government programs such as the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or Medicaid. Whichever way you go to get health insurance coverage for your newborn get the child enrolled within 30-days of their birth.Answered on September 3, 2014flag this answer
