When To Purchase Disability Insurance?
- 2180 POINTSview profileKelly MoserSocial Media Strategist, Disability Insurance Services, CaliforniaPersonally, I don't think it's ever too soon to buy disability insurance. If you're eligible, you should be looking into it. The cost of DI rises with age, and if you develop an illness or become injured, those pre-existing conditions could be excluded or drive up the cost. I'm only 25 and because of a condition I was diagnosed with a few years ago, even I'm not eligible for DI. If I had known about the importance of DI at the beginning of my career, I would have purchased it, even at age 22. So many of us think disabilities are caused from accidents or injuries, so if we're sitting at an office job, we have no need for DI, right? Wrong. Ninety percent of disabilities are caused by illness, which can strike at any age, and can affect any occupation.Answered on October 7, 2013flag this answer
