   The basic rule of thumb to qualify for a disability benefit has more to do with your physician than the disability insurance company. A licensed medical physician must diagnosis you with an injury or illness so severe that you cannot perform the duties of your current occupation. At that point the clock is running on the disability claim and once the elimination period is satisfied, benefits are paid.
