Life Insurance covers just that, your life. When you pass, the beneficiaries will receive the death benefit you have in force.

Long-Term Disability provides you a benefit while you are alive. So, no, Life Insurance does not cover Long-Term Disability.... HOWEVER...

There are now some Life Insurance products which give you access to the death benefit if you have a Disability. Keep in mind, the death benefit is reduced if you use the benefit. The advantages are you pay only one premium for Life and Disability Insurance. The disadvantage is you take away the Life Insurance benefit and you have to meet certain qualifications in order to receive the benefit.

Life insurance, as a rule, does not cover long term disability. However, some policies offer features that can assist you during a long period of being unable to work. Here are three:

    1) Disability Income Rider. This rider has a charge and would cause your life insurance policy to pay you cash if you became disabled. These riders usually pay the benefit for a limited number of years.
    2) Living Benefits Life. This type of policy could enable you to take part of the death benefit while you are still alive, if you suffered a long term disability.
    3) Waiver of Premium. This rider would pay your life insurance premium during a period of long term disability.
