If you are pregnant, disability insurance companies will not cover time off ("disability") from recovering from childbirth. If they do issue you a policy, there would be an exception for any time off taken in conjunction with your pregnancy and delivery of that baby. This is not just in Washington state, but in all the states in the United States.

Yes, it is quite possible to get disability insurance in Washington while pregnant. Unfortunately, the pregnancy would fall under the pre-existing clause of the policy and not be covered by a disability policy if it occurs prior to applying for coverage.  While there is no longer a pre-existing clause with health insurance. Disability insurance is not part of that decision as it is income insurance, not medical insurance.

Of course you can.  Just don't look to the disability policy to help finance time off work or issues from the pregnancy.  Insurance companies have this nasty little "pre-existing conditions" clause with disability insurance.  A disability policy will help with other problems down the road but won't help with the pregnancy.  However, the pregnancy itself does not stop your ability to purchase a disability policy.
