   Judging by the billboards and advertisements, cheap insurance is readily available.  Many states have special programs that provide limited and cheap auto insurance.  The thing to remember is when you are in an accident, these cheap insurers may treat you the same way, and you might not appreciate that.

   Try the online insurance sources. Remember, you are acting as your own insurance broker so if you know very little about auto insurance you are at the mercy of the carriers online.  if you purchase 'minimum limits' or forget a coverage or were not aware of an exclusion that provides no coverage, you are responsible because you 'self insured' for anything not covered by what you bought.  A knowledgeable, competent agent or broker will survey your hazards and exposures and suggest appropriate coverages and limits for your specific situation.  Well worth the commission they receive from your policy.
