Comprehensive otherwise known as Other Than Collision:– This optional coverage is selected by the insured and is indicated on the Declarations Page. It pays the insured for any direct loss of or damage to the auto if the loss is caused by:
a. Missiles or Falling Objects
b. Fire
c. Theft or Larceny
d. Explosion or Earthquake
e. Windstorm
f. Hail, Water or Flood
g. Malicious Mischief or Vandalism
h. Riot or Civil Commotion
i. Contact with Bird or Animal
j. Breakage of Glass

There are two types of physical damage coverage available for an automobile. The first is collision which covers the damage that is the result of an accident. The second is comprehensive which covers any other damage to the vehicle. Striking an animal is a comprehensive loss not a collision loss.
