    In some states, comprehensive coverage is also known as "other than collision" coverage.  "Other than collision" is probably the best descriptive answer of what comprehensive coverage is. It covers your vehicle from damage resulting in anything other than a collision (accident).

    Examples of comprehensive coverage: theft, fire,vandalism, damage from weather such as hail, hitting an animal such as deer, tree falling on it, etc.
