School bus drivers comprise an important part of my business. In the first place, insurance follows the vehicle not the driver. It is the employer, be that a school district or a commercial bus operator who will insure the vehicle not the individual driver. The policy that covers the bus is a commercial auto policy and is underwritten on a fleet basis with a list of drivers. The individual driver is not involved with that process.
Bus drivers usually drive a personally owned vehicle. The requirements for obtaining insurance on that personal vehicle are the same as they are for someone who is not driving a bus.
