Is My Spouse Covered On My Auto Insurance?
- 910 POINTSview profileKen BoncelaAgeny Owner, Farmers Insurance, Ken Boncela Insurance & Financial Services, Oswego, lllinoisIn most states, by policy contract definition, a spouse is automatically a named insured even if the name does not appear on the policy declarations page. So yes your spouse is covered on your auto insurance. You can verify this by speaking with your insurance professional, and while you're at it, take the opportunity to review all policies vs. your needs.Answered on April 4, 2014flag this answer

This would be true even if they are not specifically named. Be sure to check with your Insurance Professional about the laws in your state and the specific terms and conditions of your car insurance policy. In most cases with standard issue contracts, you your spouse, resident children and resident relatives are all covered. Everyone will have to be listed as drivers, of course.Answered on April 4, 2014flag this answer

However you are required to report your spouse as an operator. The insurance provider would ask you this question when filling out an application. Especially if you state you are married. If you claim your spouse has no licenses and does not drive and then turns out she is driving you may have a problem. There is no allowance for hiding household operators.Answered on April 4, 2014flag this answer

It's always a good idea to add your spouse to the policy ( a named driver) any way just to be on the safe side. Anyone in the household who had a license must be added to the policy as a driver or a non driver ( excluded driver).Answered on October 13, 2014flag this answer
