   Typically your personal auto insurance will only provide liability coverage when you are driving another vehicle other than the vehicle that you have covered under the policy. Your personal auto policy will not provide any coverage for physical damage to the rented vehicle or any coverage for any loss of income or other expenses that the rental car company may incur.
