    Obtaining car insurance follows the same basic procedures regardless of whether you are buying a new car or a pre owned.  Talk to your Insurance Professional and provide them with the year, make, model and Vehicle Identification Number (aka VIN).  Next discuss your coverage options and, if you are buying the insurance new as well, provide them with your full name, address, date of birth, Drivers License Number, and in most cases these days, your Social Security Number.  They will then be able to complete the application for you to sign and collect the installment payment at which point you will be provided with a binder, receipt and temporary Insurance ID Card in order to register the car.
