In California the driving record of members of the household is a major part of the rate.  In the first place you will be assessed points and will lose your good driving discount (20%)  The points will normally almost double the premium.  You will have to have an SR-21 filing and there is often a fee for that.  There might be a fine (often quite high) and then there is driving school.  It makes drunk driving extremely expensive.

Car insurance rates typically increase after a DUI...although the amount of the increase will vary depending on the company you are insured with. There are other costs associated with getting a DUI, including possible reinstatement of your driver's license and purchase of a Bond, as required by the state.
