Great Question and I hope you do not have to many DUI's. It all depends on your insruance compay. Some companies charge you for it 5 years some 7 years. So you can check with your current company for that paticular time. Some companies charge you less for the first DUI but the second one in 3 years will cost you a lot on your insurance premium.

A DUI is considered a major violation. It depends on the insurance company but most companies will factor in major violations for 5 years. Some companies have tiered rating so the violation will effect your rate less and less each renewal. If the DUI is the only incident on your record some companies offer very favorable rates so make sure you check around before selecting a company.

Many non-standard auto insurance companies who specialize in high risk auto insurance will only go back 3 years for a DUI. So if you're still being dinged after 3 years, you might be much better off shopping around with high risk auto insurance companies. Not only do they only go back 3 years, but they also tend to go a little softer on DUI's than preferred/standard carriers.
