That is an interesting question! I guess the biggest difference ( other than health insurance and car insurance being apples and oranges) is that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) helps pay for your policy if you qualify, and there is no such help with your auto insurance. Auto insurance also is a reactive insurance, generally only used after an event has occurred, while health insurance can be used proactively, utilizing checkups and screenings to prevent the need for a large claim down the road. Thanks for asking!
Both Obamacare and car insurance are mandatory, but there is a big difference in how the mandates get enforced.
The Affordable Care Act enforces the mandate through a fee which is collected by the IRS. State and local jurisdictions can enforce the mandate for car insurance through traffic fines. A police officer will routinely ask a motorist for their driver's license and insurance card.
Well, I would say the biggest difference is that ObamaCare is (supposedly) about health insurance for human beings (supposedly U.S. citizens and legal alien residents). While auto insurance is about protecting a physical piece of property, your car, and just coincidentally it will probably include some liability coverage and perhaps coverage for medical care resulting from an auto accident.
So, unless you are prone to dents and the possible need for a paint job I'd recommend the health insurance (ObamaCare) for you if you are a human being. If they finally have produced a car intelligent enough to inquire about its insurance needs (and these days who can tell?) then the machine will probably want to go with the auto insurance.
Obamacare is designed to help Americans purchase insurance to help pay their medical bills, whereas car insurance is designed to cover your automobile and, in some cases, other bills that may be associated with car accidents. This is a very interesting question, as most people will agree that it is ok for an auto insurance company to charge more to someone that is a greater risk (such as someone with three wrecks in the past year, or four DUIs in their life). For some reason, when it comes to health insurance, many people, including our President, do not find this same practice to be fair.
