    Yes if you were driving an uninsured auto then your insurance will become primary. Since the owner of the vehicle did not have coverage and you were the driver anyway I can see why the other party is coming after you. I would assume you would open a claim with your current insurance company and they will take it from there.

    It is always best to check with your Insurance Professional about the extended coverage in your particular policy, but in general, yes, you would be covered in that situation with the same protection provided in your policy.  That having been said, it is also important to understand how or if your particular state law deals with driving uninsured vehices.  In many states, it is required that one maintains insurance on a registered vehicles.  If insurance is cancelled, the state will follow up and cancel the registration on that vehicle.  So, be careful because in your scenario, if there is no insurance, it is also quite possible that you would also be driving an unregistered car as well.
