If you lease a car, or if you have a car loan, car insurance will also be a requirement of the lender or leasing company so, the general "rule of thumb" is that if you own or lease a car, you will need car insurance in order to do that.Answered on September 23, 2014flag this answer

If it isn’t licensed or operates on private property there isn’t a legal requirement to insured the car. The problem is liability. An automobile is a 2000 pound missile that can maim and kill. Being responsible for that is an awesome thing. Automobile insurance almost always contains coverage in case your car hurts someone.Answered on September 24, 2014flag this answer
