Does Every State Require Car Insurance?
- 2777 POINTSview profileTerry A. McCarthy, CLU, ChFCPresident, Insurance Associates Agency Inc., West Chester, OHThe easy answer is, as of my last update, NO. But, that is not the end of the answer. While insurance may not be required, financial responsibility is required in every state. Virginia allows you to pay an "uninsured motor vehicle fee" and Mississippi allows you to post a bond or cash to meet the financial responsibility requirements there. Florida is also unique because of their no-fault law but that does not relieve you of the obligation to maintain financial responsibility under some circumstances.Answered on February 1, 2015flag this answer
