   Car insurance will provide coverage if your car is stolen so long as your policy includes Comprehensive physical damage loss along with your chosen liabiulity protection.  So long as you have comprehensive, the settlement for your stolen car would be handled from that by your claims professional.  In order to file such a claim, it is very likely that your claims professonal will need to have a copy of the police report.
