In Illinois damage to the car you are driving caused by a hit and run driver is covered under the collision portion of the policy insuring the vehicle. Again in Illinois, when you have no collision coverage, uninsured motorist property damage coverage is available, but applicable only when it can be verified that the at-fault driver has no insuance.
If you are hurt, your medical coverage would apply. Uninsured motorist coverage for your financial loss as a result of injury is included in Illinois auto insurance, but again would require verification that the other party is not insured.
Check with your agent. Laws vary by state.
