Do I Need To Change Car Insurance When I Move?
- 16470 POINTSview profileDavid OsgoodAgent, Rural Mutual Insurance Co., Union Grove, WIIf you still reside within the same state, you should not need to change your car insurance. You will need to inform your local agent or carrier of your new address. Your rates may change depending on the carriers rates for the area that you resided in and the area that you moved in to. If you move outside of the state that you currently have your coverage established in then you may have to seek a new carrier.Answered on October 17, 2013flag this answer
- 14231 POINTSview profileTom SheehanAgency Owner, The Thomas G Sheehan Agency, 27 Glen Road Sandy Hook, CT 06482There are changes that must take place when you move with an in force auto policy, yes. If you are just moving within the same state, you need to inform your insurance professional of your new address. Every insurance provider has many dfferent rating territories within each state so it is possible that you will see a premium change as a result of your move. If you are moving to a different state, work with your incurance professional who may be able to locate another quality agent who represents your insurance company. They will be able to help you with the transfer of your policy and the process is very simple. If your company does not offer coverage in your new state, maintain the policy you have until you obtain new coverage, then inform your previous insurance professional and they will cancel the coverage and arrange for any refund to be sent to you at your new address.Answered on October 17, 2013flag this answer
