Can Someone Drive My Car Without Insurance?
- 1615 POINTSview profileRyan AndrewPresident, The Andrew Agency, Richmond, VAIf someone is going to drive your car on a regular basis you need to add them to your policy as a listed driver. Occasional use of a vehicle is okay even if the person does not have their own car insurance. Car insurance always follows the vehicle so even if the person had insurance when accident occurs the owners policy pays for the damage.Answered on May 10, 2013flag this answer

So the proof of insurance is always with the car. The point is that the car insurance always follows the car. If you gave the person driving permission to drive, then any accident that occurs will be covered by the owners car insurance, even if the person does not own insurance of their own. If someone becomes a regular driver however, they should be added to the policy. In fact, if it's an adult with a good driving record, it could in some cases make the premium go down.Answered on May 10, 2013flag this answer
