   A DUI is certainly a major infraction that will affect both pricing and availablilty of car insurance.  In some states, a DUI charge will result in at least a temporary suspention of your driver's license.  It wou dbe very difficult to shop for and obtain car insurance with a suspended license, if not impossible.  In a situation like that, if it is a first such offense, usually the state will offer a course that, once completed, will clear your record and reinstate your license.  Shoping at that time would be much easier and more successful.
