Can I Add A Car To My Policy That’s Not In My Name?

You can add other drivers but insurance follows the vehicle so the registered owner has to maintain car insurance in their own name. If there is a co-signer the first person listed on the title needs to obtain insurance and list the co-signer as a driver or additional interest.Answered on October 22, 2013flag this answer

In states that require proof of insurance in order to register a car, the named insured on the policy must match the named owner on the registration. You have no insurable interest in a car that you do not own and therefore adding it to your policy would be unacceptable to the insurance company.Answered on October 22, 2013flag this answer
