There are a wide variety of annuities.  Generally, the cost of owning a fixed annuity is the cost of the deposit.  Generally, the cost of owning a variable annuity is the initial deposit and internal fees that are declared when the product is purchased.  Fixed annuities rarely have maintenance fees.  Most annuities have a minimum premium.
