   No long term disability is not covered under the 1986 COBRA act. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act or COBRA as it is better known was designed to protect employees from losing their group health insurance benefits for up to 18 months while the employee was between jobs giving them enough time for their new employer benefits to go into force. Only group health insurance has portability under COBRA.
