That is a great question! Depending upon what type of person you are, it can be very rewarding, or very frustrating. At times, it can be both. In order to succeed as an agent, you must be willing to work long hours; work off an unsteady source of income ( there is no paycheck weekly, your money is paid based off what you sell); be thick skinned; and be a quick thinker. If you love people, can work without a structured steady flow of income, and are motivated to work hard, it can be a great career. If you are the type of person who needs a structured environment, and is bothered by rejection, this may not be the right career for you. If you would like to discuss this a little more, in private, please contact me, I'd be happy to help. Thanks for asking!

Yes, being a Life Insurance Broker is a great career.  What I tell agents/Brokers who have just received their license, who want to work through my organization, is to understand that the first 3-6 months may not generate any income or very little.  It is important to make sure there is income from somewhere and to understand the reality.  As you start to develop relationships, begin to help people with their Financial and Insurance needs, the income will start flowing in.  I have seen agent/brokers begin to make over $100k IF you have the relationships which lead into business.

Just as each person is unique, not everyone will find the Life Insurance profession appealing.  Not every life insurance agency is the same either.  Some personalities will thrive in some environment, while others thrive elsewhere.  The good thing about the life insurance business is that for most of us it is a “high-touch” business.  We get involved in the personal life of our clients.  It is rarely a high pressure business but it requires a significant amount of self-motivation.  For a personal assessment you should probably talk with your life insurance agent.  If you like him and like what he does, it might be just the right fit.
