Your homeowner’s policy covers damages to your residence from either a list of named perils or is an “all-risk” policy covering all risks except those that are excluded.  Once plumbing is underground the possibility of suffering damage by an insured peril is remote.  Ground movement and water damage would be the two most likely causes of loss and they are excluded from the normal homeowner’s policy.  Fair wear and tear is never covered.  If the house burns and the plumbing is destroyed above ground, that would be covered.

As David mentioned above, standard "wear and tear" of plumbing is not covered under homeowner's insurance; neither is maintenance of plumbing. However, in the case of a sudden rupture or burst pipe, your homeowner's policy might cover the resulting water damage, subject to your deductible, although the plumber's fees to repair the damaged plumbing would most likely not be covered.
