A laptop is covered as personal property under a renters (tenant’s) policy.  Most insurers have a limitation for damaged electronic data equipment.  There may be further restrictions if the laptop is a part of your business or belongs to your employer.  The coverage also extends to your laptop when it is away from your residence; however, there are limitations on coverage.
