Can You Collect Disability And Unemployment Insurance At The Same Time?
- 12689 POINTSview profileTed RatliffOwner, SFS Associates,If you are off work due to disability and are being covered under your employers disability plan then technically you are not unemployed and will not qualify for unemployment. As a general rule the answer in most cases would be no you cannot. There may be exceptions depending on the circumstances but these would be rare because disability payments is considered a source of income thus disqualifying you from unemployment until your disability runs out.Answered on August 29, 2013flag this answer

Yes, depending on who owns the disability policy. For a group plan offered through your employer the answer would be no. For an individual policy the possibility exists that you could collect from both. Personally I have never collected unemployment so I don't know if they even ask about disability insurance. They may and collecting disability insurance might reduce unemployment benefits. You may have to look how things work in the state you live in.Answered on October 8, 2015+01 0+1 this answerflag this answerview more answers by Larry Gilmore
