In Canada, under current legislation, companies are not required to offer a retirement plan. The more enlightened employers do though.

Companies should consider providing Retirement Plans not just because it is socially responsible, it is good business. Employees are usually a company's greatest asset and replacing them cost money. Investing in a retirement plan can keep employees.

If you would like to work with a local Retirement Planner, you could start with a Google search. For example, if you search for: retirement planner Halifax or retirement planning Halifax, my name, along with several others, will come up. You can use the same method to find Retirement Planners in your community.

If you have further questions, or feel that I could be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many employers today try to offer defined contribution qualified plans like 401(k)s as an inducement to hire on and stay with the company, especially when the employer matches contributions.
