A specified percentage of your property is covered when it is not on premises. Items of personal property would be covered if taken from a car. Damage to the car would not be included in the settlement and a deductible will be applied to the adjusted claim. Be careful on what you claim, though. Recently a customer claimed the loss of more property than could possibly have been in a large van and the car in question was a very small sedan. Adjusters are stupid.

Absolutely. Renters Insurance is often extended to things like storage units, automobiles, property in your luggage while you are on a trip. Many people are unaware of this and therefore usually end up with a loss not knowing that they could file a claim.

The only way to know for sure is to file a claim but your chances are looking pretty good. While your renter's insurance won't cover the damage to your car, it will probably cover the items stolen from the car to some extent. Good job on having renter's insurance which is one of the coverages most people neglect to get!
