Good Question. Earthquake coverage is typically not afforded under a renters policy in New York State. In other areas of the country it may be different- especially those areas that are susceptible to earthquakes. I do know of a few insurance companies that will add earthquake coverage on to the policy, however it can be costly. Hope this helps.

Great question! Unless you live in an area that is prone to them, most insurance policies are not going to include earthquake damage in the coverage. Flooding is another natural disaster that is normally not included. If you are worried about earthquake damage, call your agent, and see if there is a rider available to add to your policy. Thanks for asking!

In California earthquake coverage must be offered every two years to the insured. It is not automatically covered. Earthquakes are relatively common in some parts of California and the cost for earthquake insurance reflects that frequency and the severity of the claims experienced in a given area. The coverage frequently has a reduced limit and a different deductible for earthquake related damage.
