United Healthcare pays a royalty fee to AARP to have them sponsor their Medicare Supplement plans and that is why you must be a member of AARP in order to apply for one of their Supplements. AARP sponsors the plan they are not providing the insurance coverage or paying the claims. After the Medicare Supplement has been issued and in benefit you do do have to renew your AARP membership if you choose not to in order to keep your Supplement.

They currently endorse Medigap (Medicare supplement) plan underwritten and administered by United Healthcare. Medigap plans are designed to cover the "gaps" in Medicare created by deductibles and coinsurance. All Medigap plans are standardized and vary (within the same letter) only by price.
