In general, Medigap plans are available to help cover the gaps with Medicare coverage. There are 10 standardized Medigap plans. Each has a different level of benefits.

Medigap Plan F is the most comprehensive of all the standardized plans. It will cover all your Medicare approved charges not paid by Original Medicare Part A and Part B. If you were to look at an Outline of Coverage, Medigap Plan F would cover 100% of the following:

Medicare Part A Coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used up.
Medicare Part B Coinsurance or Copayment
Blood (First 3 pints)
Part A Hospice Care Coinsurance or Copayment
Skilled Nursing Facility Care Coinsurance
Medicare Part A Deductible
Medicare Part B Deductible
Medicare Part B Excess Charges
Foreign Travel Emergency (Up to Plan Limits)

Medigap plans are also known as Medicare supplement plans. They are designed to dovetail in to your original Medicare coverage and pick up the "gaps" in your Medicare coverage.

Medigap plans pay claims approved by Medicare A and B but not paid by Medicare due to copay's, deductibles and coinsurance.
