If you are talking about PART A of Original Medicare, the ICU would be covered once the Part A deductible has been met. (there would be cost share if there more than 60 days) Additional charges on part B can be incurred however which would be paid at 80% after the part B deductible was met.

Medicare Supplements would pay all or some of the ICU bill that Original Medicare didn't cover depending on the type of supplement in place. Plan F,G,N,C would cover all charges with plans L,M or High F leaving some coast share.

A MA or MAPD plan would cover the ICU under the regular hospital copay that is listed in the benefits.

Medicare utilizes the DRG (diagnostic review guide) system for hospital stays.

When you are admitted to the hospital, and in this case ICU, Medicare pays the hospital a predetermined rate for your stay. The amount paid is based on your initial diagnosis and adjusted for cost area factors based on region and zip code.
