Medicare Part B covers certain drugs dispensed on an outpatient basis. If your medication is put in an infusion pump or nebulizer it is generally covered under Part B not Part D of Medicare. Medicare Part B will cover most injectable and infused drugs given by a licensed medical provider. Medicare Part B may cover Injectable osteoporosis drugs for women if you meet the Medicare criteria. Chemotherapy treatments done on an outpatient basis are covered under Medicare Part B. After the annual Part B deductible of $166 is met Medicare will cover 80% on these medications and if you have a Medicare Supplement it will pay the 20% Medicare leaves off. The Medicare Advantage Plans that I am familiar with here in Alabama will require you to pay 20% for these medications which ends up being a huge financial burden for most Medicare beneficiaries that are on an Advantage Plans.

Part D is administered by private insurance companies under the supervision and guidance of the Center for Medicare Services. You must select a Prescription drug plan or face penalties by Medicare.
