Medicare is primary for most plans, including Tricare for life. This basically means that when you receive services under the plan your bill will be sent first to Medicare, which will pay its portion and then to Tricare which will supplement Medicare’s benefit if their coverage exceeded Medicare. The process is transparent to the customer unless they read the published report.

When you have original Medicare (Medicare Part A & Part B) and TRICARE, Medicare is the primary insurance. TRICARE pays second (the idea being to lower your out of pocket expenses).

Please note, I believe you have to have both Part A & Part B of Medicare to keep TRICARE benefits when you go on Medicare, but you should double-check with the plan to be 100% sure.

I hope the information is helpful - please feel free to contact me via my profile page with any other questions. Thanks very much.
