A life insurance physical exam is also known as a paramed exam. This is an underwriters opportunity to take a snap shot of an applicant's current health. A nurse or paramed examiner will come to you and take a health history and perform a few tests. Some of the most common include height, weight, blood pressure, urinalysis, blood draw, mouth swab and pulse. Depending on age and amount of insurance they can require more testing such as an EKG. The paramed examiner submits the report and findings to the underwriter to compare to medical history and doctors records. You will find with underwritten life insurance plans this is a very common practice and is paid for with your normal life insurance premiums. Therefore there is no out of pocket charge for applying.

It is usually done by a paramed company that has offices across the country. The person being insured usually has the exam done at their home or place or work, but they can go in to the paramed office, if they like. Most life insurance exams involve a blood test, urine test, measurements, vital signs and health questions.
