ROP stands for Return of Premium in life insurance. It generally refers to term life insurance where you get back all the premiums you paid in if you keep the policy until the end of the term. After about half the term has passed, a portion of the premiums may be returned if the policy is dropped early.

ROP policies usually cost substantially more than regular term policies. Unlike regular term, longer terms in ROP term usually cost less than the shorter terms, because the insurance company is able to hold onto the premiums longer before returning them.
