It has happened more than once that a legitimate insurance company has issued a policy on a pet. I recall on one occasion when someone insured their goldfish. There isn’t a question on the application that identifies the species being insured. It always causes a stir when this type of thing slips through underwriting. I would think that the height and weight question would give a pet away.

Yes, but you can only buy it from licensed dog agents. :) Seriously, I cannot find any explicit life insurance plan for pets, but I see the some pet health insurance plans have an allowance for pet funerals, burial, and/or cremation. Here is a great website for comparing those plans. https://www.petinsurancereview.com/dog.asp

I have never heard of pet life insurance, but it is not to say it exists. The few policies of pet insurance I am familiar with all work like health insurance to offset some cost of a veterinarian costs for sick or injured dogs and cats. It is very affordable and vet bills can get expensive. Maybe check with a pet cemetery they may have knowledge of something.

Most insurance companies don't offer life insurance for pets nor do most agents have it as a type of coverage they offer. Pet insurance does not pay out proceeds like a traditional life insurance policy. It typically covers veterinary fees, pet health conditions, damage to someone's property (caused by the pet), and/or pet funeral needs. I would recommend consulting with your veterinarian and see if they can refer you to an agent that offers this type of coverage.

That is a great question! You know if there is money to be made off of it, someone will offer it, so yes, you can get life insurance on your dog. There are companies out there that will provide that insurance, I'd be willing to bet that your vet could give you some advertisements or the business cards for an agent that will write you. You should be aware that most of the policies do not pay you at the dog's death, but instead covers the costs of the pets' funeral needs. Thank you for asking!
