Mold is already in every home. Coverage from your homeowner’s policy will largely depend on the cause of the mold. If there in infestation of mold in the home, it is most likely excluded by the wording of the policy. However, that doesn’t mean that a claim will be denied. If the mold is the result of a bust pipe, for example, coverage would probably be available. Some companies put a limit on recovery for mold damage. Some companies offer additional mold coverage for an additional premium. There are companies that write a stand-alone mold policy. The key is to prevent mold.
