Normally, you don’t want a homeowner’s policy for a rental piece of property. Your only insurable interest is in the structure itself. You want one of the dwelling fire policies. You might add some limited personal property to the policy to cover your property at the location, for example, a range, or refrigerator. You must make sure that you also provide liability coverage to protect you against lawsuit arising from owning the structure.
