In most cases, just having a pool doesn't necessarily affect the pricing of a Homeowners' policy, but it does affect underwriting requirements and should get you thinking about the best way to cover for that additional exposure. Here in Connecticut, building codes for each town regulate the security measures that are required for pools. In ground for example require fencing and self latching gates. Insurance rules will undoubtedly match that so if these are not in place, coverage won't be offered. As for the increased liability exposure, having a pool is one of many good reasons to talk to your Insurance Professional about Person Umbrella Liability policy for added protection.

Most insurance companies now require a locked fence around the pool and some companies will not offer coverage if you have a diving board. I would recommend an Umbrella policy as well because regardless of what happened if someone is injured at the pool or on your property you are responsible.
