That is a great question! The first step is to find the new coverage that you want. Once you've found it, contact your current insurer, and notify them that you wish to cancel the policy with them. Start the new policy on the day the old one ends. Contact your mortgage company, and send them all of this information. The most important thing is to ensure that you have no lapse in coverage. I hope that helps, thanks for asking!

If you decide to switch homeowner’s policies apply for the new insurance. When the new insurance is approved, the company will issue a declaration or other form of evidence of insurance. If there is an escrow account involved they will also send them the evidence and a bill for the premium. The former insurance company may need to be notified, the agent will probably assist. When the cancellation is done the first company will return any unused premium, or bill for the balance due. The escrow company is familiar with this transaction.
