By definition, a traditional "Homeowners" Insurance policy provides coverage to your dwelling and personal belongings provided that the dwelling is your PRIMARY RESIDENCE. This is important. If that house is not your primary residence, meaning that you live elsewhere and the house is occupied by renters to use your example, it would be entirely possible that a traditional homeowners policy would therefore provide no coverage in your example. Talk to your Insurance Professional to be sure you have the right policy coverage for your specific circumstances to make sure that there are no dangerous gaps in protection. A Dwelling Fire policy or commercial property package would provide protection for you. It is also a good idea to be sure that your tenants obtain their own Renters Insurance both for your protection and thiers.

Great question. Homeowners does cover damage by rentrs only if you have the right policy. If you rent your house out you need to get landlord insrunce from you insurnace compay. You have to call and let them know that you are renting you house instead of living there yourself.
