Home insurance covers damages. An all risk homeowner’s policy covers many perils, however it specifically excludes some. Among these exclusions in most policies is earth movement and intrusion of water from outside the residence. Homeowner’s insurance does not cover wear and tear to any component of the house, including the drainage. For example, if a drainage pipe were damaged in a fire, it would be covered. If the same pipe failed, it probably would not be covered. Incidentally the damage caused by the failed drainage pipe might be covered.
