The first deductible threshold classified as high is $1,000. It rackets up to $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 all the way up to group coop deductibles of $100,000. The key is having a side fund or HSA account that can mitigate the premium with a high deductible. Funding a HAS account is tax deductible for all approved medical service and premium outlays.

Typically, for an individual, $2,500 and above is considered a high deductible. For a family, often $3,500 and above is considered a high deductible.

However, if you are accustomed to an HMO (with little or no deductible) or a group plan through your employer with low deductibles, a $1,000 deductible may seem high to you.

So, as you can see, there is no correct answer...it's a matter of perception.
