The major health insurance options in Tennessee are Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee, AETNA, Assurant Health/John Alden, CIGNA, Humana, StarMark and United Healthcare. These are the major players in both the group and individual health insurance markets. For 2014 they were joined by the Tennessee Health Co-op which is an organization created under a grant from the Federal government to provide an additional option in the government health insurance marketplace. There are a couple of third party administered health insurance products whose policies may be underwritten by Nippon Life or some other insurance company but they represent a very small segment of the marketplace.
